Siaya county gubernatorial candidate Engineer Nicholas Gumbo Wajonya was on Saturday cleared by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for the county governorship.
The development comes after weeks of speculation believed to have been championed by his rival team that he would miss in the ballot.
The former Rarieda MP who was flanked by his deputy David Ohito, a former senior journalist at The Standard Media Group traversed the six sub counties in Siaya, minutes after his clearance by the electoral body.
Addressing the press in Siaya town after his clearance, Gumbo said that they’re confident about winning the August poll and promised to offer a transformative change in the county that has for the past nine years lughished behind on matters of development despite having vast resources.
” We are confident that by 10th August, we shall be announced the winners so that we start a journey that will transform the lives of voters. ” He said
His sentiments were echoed by Mr. Ohito who equally promised a resounding defeat in the August poll.
Mr. Ohito said that as a team, they will make Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga proud of devolution, something he has fought for many years.
” We want to make Raila Odinga proud of the devolution he has fought for so long.” He said
The former Public Accounts Committee chairman will be flying United Democratic Movement Party ticket against ODM party candidate James Orengo who is scheduled for clearance by IEBC on Monday next week.
Gumbo was joined by UDM party candidate for Ugunja constituency Oyugi Dor, Siaya county senate aspirant JT Okinda, Rarieda MP aspirant on UDM party Netto Adhola, Rarieda MP aspirant Isiah Munje among other aspirants.
